Model -T good for Bass?
« on: March 10, 2000, 04:44:00 pm »
I have been looking for a 200S or 2000S powerhead,for Bass,but wondering if I should
also consider the old Mod-T . How do they sound for Bass compared to the 2000S
? Are they also a bit narrower than the 2000S ? That would  help me ,if they sound
pretty much the same.

the model t is a great choice for bass. to my ears the general tone is very similar especially in the mids (very important to me) but compared to my 2000s it has more grind on top and alittle thinner in the lows but not whimpy by anymeans. now i must mentioned i havent had the need yet to replacee tubes or bias either amp yet which will of course effect the tone.

i dont understand what you mean by narrower.
do you mean in physical size?
no its shorter across but deeper and
  about the same in height

do you mean in frequency output or resonse?
alittle more highs alittle less lows
( not alot though on my two)

The Model T is 24inches wide, and is capable of 150 watts as opposed to the 60/120 watt output of the 200s/2000s.

Sunn marketed the Model T as suitable for either guitar or bass.  The later versions of the Model T, the one with the 3-position midrange selector (750, 1.5K, 3K) would probably be better for bass due to the tone control flexibility.  The midrange is a boost-only control, at the selected frequency, and the bass/treble controls offer both boost and cut capability.  The earlier version tone controls were typical Fender/Marshall style tone stacks.
