sunn screws
« on: January 12, 2009, 08:57:26 am »
Hey All,
I've been meaning to ask this for a while and hoping somebody can do me a favor.  I bought a junker 2000s that is now immaculate (thanks to me haha) but I'm missing the 4 screws that hold the chassis into the head cabinet.  Anybody know what screws I can use for this?  Granted I could figure it out but that'd taking more dicking around than I want to do if someone has one handy.
Thanks much,
Noel

I believe those are #10X1 1/2". They might be #12's. Should be available at any hardware store. Get panhead screws. Buy one of each from 8 through 12 and see what fits....but I recal my 200S used #10's

Quite right Basiklybass!  Too bad I didn't hear from you a day earlier because I did it the hard way since no one responded like usual.  The chassis mounting screws are #10's and the screws that hold on the crome corners to the cabinet are #6's.

Noel,
Not to get too anal, but all the Sunn heads I've had (over a dozen) used oval-head machine screws rather than pan-head. The pan-head has more of a square shoulder and the oval-head has a smooth curve (looks like a round-head screw that has been squashed). Pan-heads are flat on the bottom side of the head, whereas oval-heads have a tapered surface that fit nicely into the finish washer. Sunn's finish washers (similar to those used on Fender amps from the late 60's - on) are held in place by a tiny rubber o-ring. Then there is the question of nickel plating or chrome plating! I know, way too much info. When you restore pricey Fenders or Marshalls, getting these little details right is important. That being said, pan-heads will work just fine....securing the chassis inside inside the cab so it doesn't bang around is the most important thing! Glad you got your baby fixed.
