How to remove vintage Sunn speaker grille
« on: June 13, 2009, 01:38:03 pm »
Hello,
Having trouble trying to figure out to remove a vintage Sunn speaker grille...grille is very tight around the edges, is there a trick to this?
Thank you for your help!

On some of the pre 1969 cabinets the grill frame is held by screws from inside the cabinet. The screws are the same as those that hold the back on with the same type cup washers. You'll need one of those two foot long #2 phillips screwdrivers. On all of the others I have seen the grill frame is held by small plastic patches that act like Velcro but with more of a positive snap lock. Not sure what they are called.

if your cab was made , lets say, after the middle of 1969, a butter knife will pop the corner of the grill off. you have to work around the edges...it will come off...they did have some velcro like plactic snap thingys that reaally worked well...wipe the butter off the knife first....smiles    Bob

Loudthud's comments about his 1969 cabs hold true for my 1971 215 cabs, too.  However, my 1971 118V cabs have the pop-off grill.  So be sure to be sure before you start prying it off.
