Sentura I Power Transformer.
« on: January 11, 2000, 02:51:00 pm »
Hi all..
My Sentura I is blowing fuses approx. 2-3 seconds after power up. I pulled all of my tubes and it still does this..

Question is, how to I measure / check the power transformer to see if it's suspect, and if it is bad, where can I find a replacement?

Thanks much !

Mark;
To confirm it's the transformer, disconnect all the secondary leads and tape them off so the don't short out on any thing. Switch the amp back on. If the fuse blows then you have an internal short inside the transformer. You can have the original transformer re-wound (there is a guy who advertises in the classified section of Vintage Guitar magazine who rewinds transformers). You could also buy a generic replacement from Antique Electronic Supply in Tempe Arizona....Hammond makes excellent transformers.
Good Luck!

Mark, check http://www.triodeel.com --they are in Chicago and carry direct replacements for the original Dynaco transformers, as well as tubes and all the other electronic parts goodies--on their home page, click on "transformers" on the left banner, and scroll down past "Dynaco" to MQ-431-CL for output and MQ-782 for power--MikeL
