Ohms, Ohms, Ohms!
« on: October 02, 2010, 04:17:15 pm »
So my bandmate's got an early 70's Concert Lead and we're looking at this cab:

But we're worried that it since it doesn't have a 4 ohm input, too much power will be cut at 16 ohms. So, is it possible to switch the cab to stereo (8 ohms) per side and run each output of the amp into a side to get a 4 ohm load, to get the full 150 watts of his amp?

ok, it must have either 16Ω or 4Ω speakers it can be wired (most likely without much hassle) to give you 4Ωs...

Well there's that. But if we do go pick up this cab, we wont have time to rewire it. That's why we want to know if you can use both 4 ohm outputs of the amp into the two 8 ohm stereo inputs of the cab safely. Eventually we will rewire it though. Just need to know for now.

Unless I'm missing something, I think you should be fine.
You would be using the output jacks in the Concert as a parallel connection to connect the two 8 ohm loads to show the Concert a 4 ohm load.

Sounds good to me. We'll be picking up the cab in the next day or so hopefully. And if anything seems sketchy about it, we'll deal with the cut power at 16 ohms and eventually rewire it when we have the time. Thanks.

If you connect it as Ed suggested, there won't be any drop in power.
