a question about ohm settings on a 300t
« on: March 25, 2010, 08:46:35 pm »
hey guys, i just got two new eden 4X10 8ohm cabinets and i want to make sure i am running them correctly with my 300t. i know with just one cab i would come out of the main speaker output and run the head on 8ohms, seems simple enough, but i want to run both.

at first, i was running the two 4X10s daisy chained out of the main speaker output with the amp set on 4ohms, which i believe is the proper load. however, in reading the owners manual for the 300t the other day i read that daisy chaining cabs off of one output is not the best for the head and instead both outputs should be used, the main speaker output and the external speaker output. the problem with the manual is that it doesn't really explain which load you should run the head in if that is the configuration you choose.

so i guess to make a long story short, which setting should i use if i have 1 4X10 plugged into the main speaker output and 1 4X10 plugged into the external speaker output? 4 or 8ohm? thanks in advance for the help!

The output jacks are in parallel according to the manual;

"1. Connect your Sunn 410H / Sunn 215 Bass
Loudspeaker Enclosure or equivalent to the parallel
speaker jacks
located on the rear of the 300T
amplifier. Note: For improved performance, DO NOT
daisy chain multiple enclosures off the same jack. As
a rule of thumb, connect only one speaker enclosure
per output jack and remember the total minimum
impedance load for the 300T is 2½. Remember to
connect or disconnect any speaker enclosure to your
300T with the power off."

So, when you plug an 8 ohm cabinet into each jack you are showing the amp a 4 ohm load, and should select the 4 ohm setting.
