Sunn 200S Restoration

Hi, Guys,

My 200S is cleaned, restored and ready to play, although the cabinet is of the guitar variety, believed to be a Sorado or similar. I have a 415M enclosure that I'm presently restoring. You can see the new grille treatment off to the right of the 200S.





The two Concert Horn Accessory units are also newly restored, and will go into an assortment of Sunn PA equipment I'm working on.



Current Sunn projects are the 415M cabinet, a 115 cabinet, two 412SR cabinets, a 2116 mixer, Generation 2 12-channel mixer, two Concert Slaves and one Coliseum Slave.

Pics will follow as projects are completed. Group shot will come when I get my workshop cleaned (good f**in' luck!).

I'm getting better at the cloth thing, and will straighten the grilles on the horns when my other projects calm down.

I got a 115 cabinet last week, and will post that when the resto is complete.

Don't be so hasty in writing off the "guitar transducers" in your cabinet! More than 20 years after buying my Sorado with a 215, which always sounded great, I finally had an occasion to open up the back and discovered said "guitar transducers." Finally found a matching 215 a couple of years ago and, lo and behold, opening it up revealed two "bass transducers." Both cabinets sound the same - great!

Thanks, CLD. I'll keep that in mind. I need to speaker the 415M cabinet, and will end up using whichever sounds best with the 200 head.

My old rig was a pair of 2000S heads and four Sunn cabs with Altec 421A speakers, so my judgment may be from memory only and more than a bit off.

Good chance that the 115 cab will be enough for these old bones.

I'm also a bit little curious about the spec on the 200S head's output jacks. One reads "16 OHM SPEAKER" and the other reads "8 OHM EXTERNAL SPEAKER." Seems like a strange pairing. Is this correct for the 200? I can't remember anything about the output or wiring from my old 2000S rig.

If I use the 115 cab with an 8-Ohm speaker, is it okay to use the 8-Ohm jack with nothing connected to the primary (16) jack?

Been more than 20 years for me, so I'm surprised that I even remember how to flip the on-off switch.

Nice job on the concert horns.  In the early to mid 70's I had a Sunn PA system; Sunn PA6 self powered mixer and a pair of 412SR PA columns with a Concert Horn on each one.  Didn't like the PA6 mixer, so in 1980 I replaced it with a Biamp 883, 8 channel mixer and a Biamp TC-120.  Biamp was also made by Conrad after he sold Sunn to the Hartzel Corp.  Great equipment.  I still have the TC-120 and it works great to this day.  I have a 1683 which replaced the 883...still have it too...and it works great.
