sunn beta lead? 1979?
« on: August 11, 2010, 12:22:44 pm »
Hello  all!!
A friend of mind has a sunn beta lead amp he got for trade.
The amp does not work.
power light comes on but, the input lights do not, even with a guitar cord plugged in.
Someone has taken out part  CP5?   7933  125 ohm  10%  6w?  from circuit board position R25.
Is there a way to check weather this part is bad ?
And if so what could be the cause?
Thanks
Jam :-)

If you can't tell if the part is bad, you shouldn't be messing around inside the amp. Take it to a repair tech. You could cause the cost to repair the amp to go from $50 to over $200.

Well I will be the first to say Im not a tech!!
But I have fix some things in the past!!
The latest project was to  blackfaced my 68 twin and put new caps in it.
I have a small multimeter , it has dc.v ac.v  >+ check and cont.
Some parts need to be checked in the circuit, and some out.
I guess what I was getting at was , has anybody had problems with this part of thier amp?
And does this part go bad on it's own?
CP-5   7933  125ohm  10% 6w
The part came off  of circuit board location R25
Thanks again for any info

That resistor is part of the minus 15V regulator. There are probably other parts that are bad. If you screw-up or miss something, it could apply minus 40V to the preamp and destroy every IC on the board including the switching logic IC that is almost impossible to get, not to mention several capacitors that could blow up in your face. Take the amp to a tech. You don't have the equipment to fix it safely. You have been warned. Don't come to me when all you have is a smoldering mess or if you sustain a serious injury.

I think I will tell the bassplayer who own's it, to do as originaly planned!!
take the solidstate turd chassie out and throw it in the trash and use the speakers for the top end of his bass rig
kind of a shame looks like new
