WTB Sunn 200s around the Seattle area
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:36:43 am »
Would like to find a Sunn 200S enclosure around the Seattle (western WA or OR) area. Doesn't have to have speakers or could have blown D140(s) etc.
What I mostly interested in is the cab in nice condition. Or maybe one that needs to be cleaned up, (I'm a do it yourselfer) but doesn't have rips and tears.

As always, cheaper is better. (I'm a poor retired guy)
Thanks for looking
Greg

They seem to pop up pretty regularly in your area, unlike in the midwest.  Keep your eyes on this site and I bet you'll come across one before long.

Good luck!

I believe that there is a 200S on ebay AND what is a 200S cab but with JBL D-130's.  Check it out.

I saw that and it does look nice but the D130s kind of undid it.
Thanks though

You know, except for the cone assembly the 130's and the 140's are the same. The motors are identical, if you can get suitable recone kits you would in essence have a D140 loaded 200S cab.
Regretfully, I'm pretty sure that factory D140 and probably K140 recone kits are long gone, but you may still be able to find E140 kits somewhere, and while they are not exactly like the "D" kits they are very close tonally.
Also, if the 130's in the 200S cab are nice, they are maybe/probably worth more on the open market than the 140's, so you may even be able to upgrade to a nice pair of D140's and put some money in your pocket at the same time.

The JBL factory recone kits are still available but the cost shot way up earlier this year. My speaker tech showed me the price lists last spring.

I'm hoping the basket being the same is going to work in my favor. I've got one, which was a D140 and is in tough shape. I'm dropping it off at the fix it shop tomorrow.

One to go.

Actually I'd rather have a good used basket and have a new cone and all put in so I know it's history.
I like brand new old stuff

I've got several JBL's for sale on the for sale section here at this site. A couple perfect cone vintage D140F's, and a D140F and D130F that need recones. I'm down in the Portland area so not all that far away either. Make me an offer via PM if interested.

I also have a 200S head for sale that I haven't listed yet. If you want more details on that, let me know. I made some modifications to it to make it better for bass and everyone who has heard it says it sounds fantastic as compared to stock.

Hey Thanks
Over the weekend I was able to buy a K140 basket for very cheap, so I hope I am good to go (to the reconer)
We'll see what happens next.
