Hi there,as long as I can remember,a watt is a watt, there is no European or North American watt ratio. An amp that puts out 100 watts rms is a 100 watt amp, regardless of where it was made.
True, but how a watt is measured can yield different answers. How much power a speaker can handle continuously is considerably lower than how much it can handle in brief pulses. I don't know that the power is measured differently in Europe, but it might be.

Indeed.

thats what i thought too and while looking for replacement speakers for a cab of mine i asked my tech what the best cab was for my model t's, he had recommened an orange or marshall but i was weary considering their rating was 100w and i had just blown my 160w 412l.  he said that european speakers are more powerful than american ones...the reason vintage 30's can hold a considerable amount of power over say my sunn transducers even though they say 30 watts.  idk if maybe its just a better quality speaker but when i replaced my speakers with them it made a considerable difference in volume.  i really have no idea about wattage, im just going by what my tech told me, maybe he was confused with volts.  but then im pretty sure the value of your amps and volts makes your wattage...does anyone know about international wattage?

Hi there, the only measurements that I know of are,R.M.S. which means Root Means Square,or( True Power,or Constant Power),Peak Power, and Peak to Peak Power, sometimes refered to as Music Power.A watt is a watt, most of Europe runs on higher AC voltages than we do over here, but a volt is a volt, they just run on 220,240,260 as opposed to 120,if you double the voltage, you will draw half the current, which for the power company means smaller gague wire can be used.Read up on OHM'S LAW and you'll find all the formulas and answers to your questions.Mel.

Knowing Ohm's Law still won't tell him how the power ratings were arrived at for the different cabinets.

Check out this paper from Peavey on speaker rating/testing.

There's BS designed to sell amplifiers and speakers and then there's the truth.

As stated before there's RMS watts and there's "peak music watts" and the rest of the crap.
Don't be victimized by salesmen and con artists. Do yourself a favor and learn a little basic electronics.
There's no European standard vs American or wattever (ha), that's just a con.

It's been my experience that there's really no true standard anywhere for power output or power handling capability, particularly with bass and guitar amps/speakers/cabinets. Some gear exceeds expectations based on published statistics and some gear falls short.

Hi there, the only "standard" measurement I know of and I think the A.E.S. uses it,is 6 hours of full bandwidth pink/white noise at maximum power handling of the spkr.,quite a rigorous test if you've ever done it,or heard it being done.Mel
