Slave question...

Sorry if there's an outstanding thread already on this, just didn't want to hijack anyone's threads. My question is pretty straight forward. I have no experience with slave units (any make or model), but I'm under the impression let's say I have a slave unit & a model T + two cabs, I can chain my model T to the slave unit and get the model T preamp w/ the slave units power amp, correct? so It'd basically be like having two of the same amp almost? The reason I'm asking is I already have two model T's, but would like to invest in some more cabs, and haven't seen any Model T's floating around lately (not to mention saving some money would be nice).

As long as Mike brought this up, I have a question as well. To get more volume from my 200S through two 200S cabs, can I just run the 200S through a Concert Slave and into the cabs? I would wire the cabs so they bring a 4 ohm load into the Concert Slave.

(I'd like to get a 2000S at some point but don't have one right now.)

   Hi there,to use the slave amps properly they need a line level signal at the input,not a speaker output.You can't hook a 200S up to them unless you put a line level output in the 200S.If you run raw power to the input of the slave,you will damage it.The Model T however has a line level output,you could hook up a cab to the Model T,(speaker output) and run a line from the Line level output to the input of the slave and hook up the other cab to the slave spkr.output.Good luck,Mel.

A 200S needs to be connected to a speaker any time it is on. Since all the Sunn Slaves I can think of have a volume control directly after the input jack, you could connect it to a speaker level signal, but the pot will need to be set between 0 and 1 to avoid massive over drive. You could damage the slave if the control is set too high. Not really a good idea. Any tech could modify your 200S to have a Slave out, but you still would need to use a speaker cab or a dummy load. A speaker attenuator box would work if it had some kind of line out.

Two other candidates that have these features (sans attenuation) are the H&K Red Box ($120) and Behringer's version the GI 100 (not the DI 100) $ 35-40. Both units provide a balanced (xlr) line out for slave or mixing board. I have the GI 100 and it works well so far... go ahead and flame me.

I made a speaker level direct box so that I can run my 200S into my Concert Slave. I plug the 200S into the box, then a speaker cord goes to the speaker, and a signal cord goes to the slave.

How was that box configured, Isaac? Sounds like a much lower cost option than the Hot Plate ...
