2000S People Please Read
« on: December 10, 2010, 02:21:31 pm »
Hi, Buds,

I'll finally be coming into a good 2000S head next week, owned by a buddy who's local. Now I get to build a pair of cabinets to go along with it, and that's fun.

I have the drawings that are on this and other sites. From memory of my old rig, they seem to be correct, but I'm not sure that they are accurately scaled, and I don't want to start cutting until I can be sure. The cabinet's outer dimensions are easy and the construction is a no-brainer, but a few internal dimensions would really be of help to me -- and anyone else who is interested in scratching the correct 2000S enclosure.

If someone with an accessible 2000S cabinet could do a little measuring, I need the following:

height of the opening in the speaker baffle (dimension A on the drawing)
width of the single horizontal board at the center of the rear of the cabinet (this board is not shown on the drawing that I have)
width of the two horizontal defector boards at the front of the cabinet (dimension E on the drawing)
width of the two angled deflector boards that meet the horizontal boards (this has no alpha mark on the drawing)
angle of the two angled deflector boards (dimension G on the drawing)
distance from the edge of the angle deflector boards to the back* of the cabinet (dimension H on the drawing) *"Back" of the cabinet being the rearmost edge of the outside of the cabinet, not the interior wood strip that supports the back.

I know that removing the back of a 2000S is a time-consuming project, but I will be forever grateful if someone would do that. I'll help if you're anywhere near Lancaster (lackluster) PA.

On another subject, I just finished scratching two 410S cabinets to use with my Sentura II head, and they came out very nicely. The edges are routed, the interiors are painted and I'm ready to apply the Tolex. Speakers just arrived, so now I can get the rear-loaded baffles holed and grilled. Should be done by next week, and I'll post images.

Thanks and warmest regards...

Nice, going for a pair? I don't have my schematics around right now, but I would recommend you email Conrad for the plans. He supplies measured scale drawing with a full supply list. There's only one dimension in his drawings which is off, I can't remember which, but I believe it's cab width. Something like if you're using the 3/4"s birch for the outside, you end up with a 30.5" or 31" wide cabinet. I'd have to look for them. Anyways, he's probably your best source. Hope the project goes well, I know I loved building, and now playing, my cab (which, coincidentally, will finally be mated with a 2000s head in the next week or so).

Hi, DMN,

Thanks for the quick response. I just sent Conrad an e-mail request.

The outer dimensions are easy. It's the angles, widths and specific locations of the internal parts that the drawing doesn't address without raising a few questions.

As I wrote before, if it's an accurate scale drawing, it's easily workable. If it's a rough, it won't do the trick. I don't know about its accuracy, and I'd rather be sure than just close. A proper drawing - or just the measurements I need - would be a godsend.

Thanks and regards,

Contacted Conrad, who had drawings and excellent photos.

If anyone else needs these drawings, they are $35 from Conrad and well worth it.
