Sunn 415M build

THANKS to jeff troy he made this build possible now for the pics:

here's the building of the carcass... and sort of out of order shots of my build 3/4" ply was used in constructing the carcass standard butt joints predrilled with countersink bit and plugged all the 3/8" screw holes with premade store bought flat maple plugs.  fastened the carcass with 15 guage finish nails titebond 3 wood glue and deckmate 2 1/2" screws..

here's some pics of the "v"groove that is the spin that centers the v of the baffle please make note the angle that the baffle borards sit at is around 86 degrees its not a true 90 degree angle:


heres the amp loaded with two peavey black widows and 2 fender pa speakers rated at 300watt rms each:

it rattled all over the place so acoustical foram was added to the interior using high strength 3m spray adhesive:
i added scoop handles similiar to those found in marshall cabs:


tolexing it was a pain as was getting the grill cut but i am more than happy with the results there are no words to describe how it sounds:



its wired up at two ohms and my 2nd gen. model t sounds beyond description thru it it feels neat standing in front of it... weight is a problem so i added 4 3 1/2' casters.. hope y'all like it and i'll post my 4x12 build later

why'd you put a sunn badge on it?

here is my lil story about the SUNN 4X15s. had two of them and i play solo and i schlepp my own stuff and prob w/ those cabs-just too bulky for the sound results-no bang for buck in my case.
i do much better w/ double 2X15s and all the other stuff i use. ymmv
and i still believe speakers pointed at each other cancel something-i'm not sure what.

just got back from a full us tour using this cabinet... sounded rad with a 79 model t running through it we also had a coliseum pa running through a verellen 2x15 and a coliseum slave running through a seperate peavey black widow 70's era  2x15... that was just our bass rig... for the guitar we have a 79 model t that belonged to scott wino running through a celstion vintage 30's 4x12 a 72 concert slave running into a 70's black widow peavey 2x15 and a coliseum pa powering an old randall 4x12... we were loud and rattled peoples bones when we played... soooo fucking loud i sing and if i didn't have hearing protection in i would get dizzy from the sound waves... i have played the 415 cabinet alone and it kills it is really loud there is no cancellation of sound waves that can be heard.... it is loud and gnarly its rated at 2 ohms andf i run the model t at 2 ohms through it... it literally sounds amazing on its own.... the sunn badge is on there to pay homage to the exact design i replicated, sorry if thats confusing but i built it to spec with a few little modifications and hardware that is a little different than the original... i didn't build this to sell it or anything and i put the sunn badge on it because my friend makes them and sold it to me for 2 bucks... they are just silkscreened aluminum with 4 countersunk wholes drilled out of them nothing fancy...  if you hate that i put a badge on it deal with it or just don't look at it I really don't care... if you thought i spent the time building this to fool people you are mistaken... my main reason is that of appreciation for the old sunn gear ... would you ask the same of a person who built a classic car from a kit or restored one why he put original logo's all over the car even though its not an original...  see my point... i'm proud of this cabinet it was my first build and it sounds great i'll be posting pics of my sunn 412 build soon as well!!!

hey rotgut sorry for the late reply but no the baffle is nailed in with 1-1/2" 15 ga. nails... and glued with poly urethane glue... i was to weary of shrikage and expansion of the plywood, and the nature of thisd cab is being pure rumble soididn't want any chance of vibrating parts...
