1973 Sunn 612S Speaker Stack for Sale
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:15:34 pm »
Ladies and Gents,

I'm new to this forum but participate on the Ibanez Jemsite.com forum.

Up for sale is something you don't see every day. I'm selling my vintage Sunn 612S speaker stack. I purchased this used in 1982 and combined it with a 50w Marshall JMP Super Lead. Both the Sunn and the Marshall have been in climate controlled storage since 1995 and the Sunn hasn't been fired up since the late 1980s. I'm practicing now more than ever but a 612 stack is too much gear to lug around once I get back into live gigs. A 2x12 combo will be my future rig. I moved into a new house and all of my storage stuff in California was trucked out to Oklahoma and now this 612 stack is sitting in my garage. The Marshall goes to a specialty shop in Chicago to get re-tubed and refurbished.

The 612S is a monster; both in size and output. Rated at 350w RMS through 6 ohms. The cabinet weighs about 100 pounds and its totally stock. Comes with its original dust cover and rolls smoothly on four original casters. A few tiny tears in the tolex but its simply in amazing shape for a speaker stack that's over 35 years old. The six 12 inch speakers are aligned at a 90 degree angle to each other. Cover screen is in perfect shape and the Velcro to hold the screen is still fresh.

All original USA construction out of the original Sunn factory in Oregon.

The size is 24x15x43. I took out two of the speakers last weekend and the speaker cone p/n is 451210-2. The date stamp of the magnets are 67 7315 which I believe dates manufacture to 1973 week 15. Cabinet serial number is C-001388.

I uploaded a few pictures to flickr.com. Check them out at:

I've got this Sunn up for sale in the Tulsa Craigslist. Its also for sale at jemsite.com. It will be going to eBay in a few weeks if there are no takers here.

Reasonably priced at $700. Shipping extra depending on where it needs to go.

I'm willing to travel a few hours out of the Tulsa area and meet any one half way to complete the sale. I'm also going to be in the Chicago area this summer and can lug it to the Windy City too. Regardless, we can work out any arrangements. PM me or give me a call at 918-407-4671 if you need more details or photos. Email is richandsita@cox.net

Best Regards, Rich

I suppose "reasonably" is a subjective term, but I'm pretty sure that $700 would be an all time record.

I STILL think that's a record, but it's good news for anybody that has a 612S.  I wonder if that sale will bring any more of them to the marketplace.
Has anyone here seen one bring $700 before?

hell no! that's kind of a big stink if you ask me! but hey, it's worth what some one is willing to pay for it, like my old man always said

if that one went for $700 it just means that each one on ebay will go for a lower price since the high bidder already got his.

Was that $700 for both? Or each?  I was a little unclear on that. Maybe I should get my pair dolled up, and make some cash!

Also, the link doesn't work.

I think it was for one 612 cab. If it was a pair then the price is more in line with what I would think a nice pair would bring, but...

hell no! that's kind of a big stink if you ask me! but hey, it's worth what some one is willing to pay for it, like my old man always said

There is no denying the truth of that statement. At that point in time, to that buyer, that cab was indeed "worth" $699.
Unless of course it comes back up on eBay because of a non paying bidder...

The wording is a bit unclear, as I didn't see 'each' written, but did note the mention of a 612S stack. If they were $700 for the pair, I'd consider another pair. 12x24 stack had ought to get the message across! :)

Dear All,

To clarify, I sold one (1) 612S for $699. The eBay buyer paid me immediately but still needs to pay an additional $36 for shipping.

The Marshall JMP Super Lead is still owned by me and is going to a specialty shop to be refurbished.
