Wanted: Early Style Handles
« on: June 14, 2011, 07:28:17 pm »
Hello, Restoring a couple cabinets and looking for a pair of the early style handles with the squared caps.
If anyone has any available I'd love to work out a deal.
Thanks!!!

Check out The American Handle Company Inc.

www.americanhandle.com

They were the original source of the handles that are on my '70's vintage Coliseum head and cabinets.

Hi Bill, Thanks for the suggestion. I did contact them a while back and they do have some that would seem to work. When I gave them a call I remember them saying I would need to buy them in high quantity and putting a grand into handles was a little more than I really want to deal with:) Plus I'd rather keep them as original as possible even if that means some wear.

Understood.  When I contacted them they referred me to a distributor of their products that would sell me their products in smaller quantities.  Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the distributor.  You may be able to search on American Handle in this forum to find the name.  Good luck.

Here ya go...from a previous post of mine.

American Handle is the original supplier.  Unfortunately they do not sell direct.  They referred me to Reid Supply Company and to order their part number AHC-1 ($20.50 each).  This is definitely the handle (imitation leather) however the standard version that Reid Supply carries has black trim and end caps instead of chrome like the originals.  Search the forum using the key words of "American Handle" for the complete thread from back in March of this year including info from someone that was able to order the chrome version from Reid Supply.  You can also Google "American Handle" to find their website which includes photos and dimensional drawings.  Be sure to look under "flat handles".

Do you want the later-style leathery handles or the earlier vinyl ones?

Although it looks like they've changed suppliers and aren't carrying the style they used to carry (which was more like the originals), fliptops.net has some vinyl handles.
