197? Solarus For Sale or trade
« on: August 16, 2011, 03:19:11 pm »
Originally, this was labeled as a 190L but the sticker was peeling up a bit so I removed it with some Bestine and the Sunn Solarus logo was revealed.  This amp was sitting in a basement for many years and I rescued it and took it to Jeff Bakos here in Atlanta.  He cleaned it up very nicely.  Put a new power cord on it and gave it a clean bill of health.  He also informed me that the later models were 60 watts not 40 like the earlier versions.  It has 2 6550's and a solid state rectifier.  I am really looking to trade this thing for a Beta Lead/Bass with a footswitch if possible.  I'd also consider any solid state Sunn.  I will sell it for the right price.  Thanks!

Ok, I give up. What is the "right price"? Did you just forget to post it in your ad, or is it a secret?
Also, I believe the 2 x 6550 SS rectified Sunns were actually rated at 80 watts.

Man...I feel welcome already.  I figure if you are looking for what I have, you will make an offer.  If it's "the right price", I will except.  You dig?  I have no price in mind as I am more interested in a trade than cash.  Everytime I put a price on any given piece of gear, I always end up dealing with a know-it-all tire kicker who only wants to show his knowledge of gear rather than make a deal.  I'm sure you know the type.  I figure this way suits me best.

BTW, thanks for the info on the wattage.  It makes sense.  I always thought it was loud for 60 watts.

When I wrote that last post, I actually thought you had just forgotten to put a number in your ad. Thanks for clarifying, but this isn't really an auction site, it's a classified ad section on an enthusiast’s forum.

Auction sites like eBay, were everyone can see things like what the seller's reserve is and the progress of their offers vs. other persons offers seem to work better (and also seem to ultimately bring more money for the seller) than this forum or other blind free classified ad sites like CL, and also provides a level playing field for everyone concerned.
Of course it suits YOU best  :-D; The man-behind-the-curtain style "make a cash offer and I'll think about it" stacks the deck in the seller's favor, as if the seller is just hoping that someone offers way too much, with no line in the sand "I'll take this much" as a check/balance or reference point a potential buyer has from which to make said offer.
No "know-it-all tire kickers" to deal with on eBay; it's either bid or not bid, buy it now or don't. In fact several members here have listed their gear there and then linked it to this forum just in order to get exposure in front of a bunch of confirmed Sunn-o-philes. It’s also been pretty successful I believe.

Even beyond the blatant negotiation advantage, I think an asking price is just sort of a common courtesy to prospective buyers, lets them know if their "right price" and the sellers "right price" is even in the same ballpark.
It could also save the seller from dealing with ridiculous offers.

Good point.  I certainly hear what you are saying.  If I had to throw a price out there I would say $500.  Again, A Beta Lead sounds so much better than the cash.

If I hadn't sold this earlier this year;

I'd be on your amp like a duck on a June Bug! I like Sunn in general, but I'm pretty much a tube kinda guy.

Unfortunately, that amp is long gone!! actually both model ts have been sold. The 74 was sold to a guy on this forum and the 77 sold to a music store which they eventually sold on ebay. That is why I responded to this post, I would like to get a tube head. I love the way the beta lead sounds, but it not tube. So I could trade you the Beta lead plus some cash (like 150-200) for your solarus.
