Ah Yesss.  The Motor City 5 ( MC5)  remeber them well.  I lived in Michigan and saw a number of their concerts.  Don't ever remember seeing them with Sunn amps.  It was usually WEST ( made in Michigan ) or Marshalls.

Brownsville Station was a painfully loud band out of Michigan. They played at the Paramont Theater in Portland a couple of times when I worked there sometime around '72 to '74. I hesitate to copy pictures and post them here due to Copyright restrictions but checkout their unofficial website. You can clearly see the bass player using a Coliseum Bass and Coliseum Slave but you can't get a good look at what the guitar player is using.

The band brought their own drum riser and had two 4x8 sheets of plywood that were full of eyebolts. The position of every drum and cymbal stand was carefully marked and at least three bungie cords used to hold things in place. At the end of almost every song, the guitar and bass players would jump up on the corners of the drum riser, grind on the last cord, let it feed back for a second, then jump high in the air and cut the sound off as they hit the stage. Their biggest hit was "Smokin in the Boy's Room".

Gordon,  How right you are.  I'm from Michigan and remember seeing them in 1969 when they were a 4 piece band.

Riders on the Storm 200s rig

Jerry Scheff in the studio with the doors for the LA Women album.

This pic reminds me of when I was the editor of a music magazine in the 90s. I had a 22 y.o. kid I hired as an assistant editor and he had gone to a Jewish wedding of another of our editors over the previous weekend.

On Monday, he came in and was telling me about it. then he says..."The only part that sucked was that some fat, bald old Jewish guy heard I worked for a music magazine and started telling me some bullshit that he played bass with Steve Stills and Mike Bloomfield on Super Session and The Doors and Bob Dylan....What a nutjob..."

I yelled over "His name wasn't Harvey was it?"

The kid stops and looks over really shocked and said "Yeah. How'd you know that?"

I quietly mumble...."Harvey Brooks....very famous session player from the '60s....Dumbass."

About two weeks after that, I get in a heated debate with the kid after he edits a feature on the history of the blues and changes every "Negro" and "Black" bluesman reference to "African American Bluesman."  I tell him that there was no such term at that time and he is putiing political correctness before historical accuracy. He gets real defensive and starts ranting that he is correct.

I get on the phone and call the drummer I'd been recording with, a black guy who has played with everyone from Weather Report to Billy Joel. He picks up, I explain the situation and he says "put that boy on the phone and let me straighten his ass out..."

It was classic.

When he got off the phone, I asked the kid..."Just what DID they teach you in college?"

I think I know what happened to that “kid”. He must be the one that just rewrote a sanitized version of Mark Twain’s “Huck Finn”, removing the “N” words and “Injun” in the interest of correcting history for us.

I am a Huge Russian Circles fan since Im from Chicago and have helped out the guys many times But I cant remember what the bassist (colin) used. From this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmOR1I2Q-OI is looks like it could be 2 Sunn Concert Bass heads.

What do you guys think?

Look more like Coliseums to me.  Longer and thinner then Concerts.
