SM-1 Module in the Tremelo Circuit

Has anyone dissected a working SM-1 opto module to learn the specs of the bulb and the CdS cell? With some experimentation, it should be possible to create a replacement. I'm positive the bulb can be replaced, but the cell could be another matter.
Here's an interesting take on making one.

Seems to me that it shouldn't be necessary to duplicate the innards, only the characteristics. Recreating the innards might be the easiest way to do that, or maybe not.
