Reconing SUNN Transducers...

I've got a 612S cab that came with three blown 12's (seller claimed they all worked..duh1) Anyway, does anyone know if the exact recone kits are still available anywhere for these to keep them stock? If so, from where? If not, what is the recommended alternative?
  ...on a separate question...I also have an empty Solarus 2x12 openback bottom that I'd like to put speaks in. What are the choices that were used?

The Sunn speakers that were in my 1967 Solarus were 12" with huge ceramic magnets - even bigger magnets than those on Twin Reverbs.

Ya got two or three choices:

-- JBL 120's - loud and clean, plus the really cool aluminium dust covers.

-- Fender replacements, whatever they are using for "The Twin" or the '65 reissue. This might come very close to the original sound.

-- New, specialty speaker. (Weber, Reverend, Celestion) The advantage being earlier breakup, etc.

All this for guitar. I suspect that an open backed cab would not last long with a bass.

Give me ALL the numbers off of the frame/magnet assm,(you may have to peel back the label) and I will find out from my supplier he has them.. I was considering selling the 6 ones out of my 612cab, and replacing them with Altec 417-8C's...Any thoughts???

Those Eminence speakers you can always get reconed.  Waldom Electronics in Chicago manufactures all replaceable speaker parts for almost anything ever made.  Don't worry about messing up vintage 12's in a Sunn cabinet; there aren't any, except for JBL.  Just be sure all the speakers are in phase.

The model on the 612Stransducers is 67-7315....also on the cone the # is 451210-2.

Bill...let me know if your speakers you mentioned you might sell are the same models as my blown ones...

For anyone interested, Eminence turned me onto Orange County Speaker in CA (1-800-897-8373) claiming them to be the best at vintage/classic speaker restoration in the US. After speaking with them, they claim to be able to recone/restore SUNN transducers to
identical specs/appearance. They are also authorized JBL and use only original parts.

FYI, I had one of my Sunn transducers reconed at Orange Country Speaker Repair.  It's an early/mid 70s Coliseum Lead AlNiCo 12".  Anyway, they were very prompt and they did a nice job but the cone/dustcap (and I assume the rest of the speaker guts) are not identical to the original.  On some speakers,  they can get close but exact matches when  NOS parts aren't possible.  I had to specifically request "original look" including an aluminum dustcap so that it visually matched the others.  They make several claims on their web page stating that  the repaired drivers will be "just like" the y were before being fixed.  I asked them how they verified this for each repaired speaker and I got a vague answer along the lines of "there is no need to test because it's just like the old one".  Okay...well, I guess they do a good job then

I would just buy a new Eminence speaker, at the same cost as reconing, and have a better speaker when I'm done!

OK...so I bought the identical 12-inch SUNN Transducers from Bill to match those in my 612S cab...Bill's were only ONE MONTH newer according to the numbers on them...BUT...
mine had the square SUNN orange & black labels on the back...his has the the SUNN black & white labels.

WHY??...did I just happen to hit the changeover month in label types? Seems really strange. Did Emenence label some and then SUNN label some itself? Anyone know?
