Best 12AX7 for BASS
« on: December 26, 2002, 07:20:16 pm »
Hey there sunn heads, so I just retubed my solarus with RCA 6550' s
AKA sylvania's they are the GE style. Any way I put a 6AN8 because my other one was decent but not great, it test good though ironic.
Yeah  but i have a 12ax7 EH and i think that is the offender, but  i am not sure. :(
When i tap on it it craclkes alittle. Now i am on my tone quest to finding a Good 12AX7 that can stand the vibration of a bass amp.  :-?
So what would be a good NOS or JAN 12AX7 that would have good tone and mainly be up to handling the vibrations.
I am only 15 and really into sunn's and tubes mainly.
I love to support Sunn because they kick Fenders ass. :P
I would love to see a bunch of people that love sunn's go to fender and buy the name and start building amps like sunn used to.
   :D

I like the JAN 5751. These can be found readily, sometimes at a pretty good price.  Lower gain but usually sturdier than a regular 12AX7.  Worth a try if you want it to stand up to amp vibration.  You might also try the 6681.

The JAN (Joint Army-Navy) 12AX7A's by Phillips are real good for bass.  They are built to the Sylvania specs.
Heads up, everybody!
