Bill, thanks for the transformer pics.  Some people have questioned the originallity of mine because they have never seen anything like the big one on the right.  The later models do not have it.  I see that your two smaller tubes on the left are capped.  What does that do for you?

For lack of finding what I really wanted, I tried to buy the Sunn 215 at Bass Northwest.  The thing's soo big and heavey they won't even ship it to Pittsburgh.

The output transformer on the right is all original, and is made by Dynaco and it's Ultralinear.  The paint on the mounting bolts is still there.  The 2 GZ34 Mullard rectifier tubes were only removed so you could get a better view of the power transformer.

Excuse my bad language here, but the older fender bassman 215 cabs used JBL D-140F speakers and there are a number of those out there to be had.  Might this be a reasonable substitution since I may never get the Sunn cab I want?

I would vote "no" on the Bassman cabinet because it is NO way as deep as the 2000S cabinet and won't give you the bass response you need.  If anything I would opt for a 200S cab, they are pretty common, and reasonably priced.  Even if you couldn't get one with JBL's, you could always put them in later.  I have to look at a friend's house, he has 2 Sunn 2000S heads, and 2 Sunn Coliseum Bass heads in his basement, and says he doesn't want them so I should come by and pick them up before they get given away to someone else.  I will look and see if he has any cabinets, if he does I will keep you posted.

I would be interested in some Sunn 2000S cabinets if the guy had them. Also, Iaamh, did you try to get Bassnorthwest to go down on the price of that Sunn cabinet? If so, how far will they willing to go down?
THanks!

We didn't even get down to price.  There was no way they would consider shipping it.  It is there for pickup only.

Was in a store today to buy a cable and they have a Marshall 2x15 cab (model 1551).  Anyone ever play one or have an opinion on how it might sound with my 2000S?

Why don't you just take your 2000s head into the store, plug it into the Marshall cab and play through it?  You're the one that has to like it.

Here's what happened to my 2000s cab back in 1984 after I left home to attend college out of state
Mom: I'm having Goodwill come by to pick a bunch of stuff, what about that big old speaker thing of yours in the garage, I'd like to clear out some room in there."
Me:" They can have it, I'll never use it. "
At least I pulled the JBL's before I let it go.
