fender t question, vintage tone question also?
« on: May 25, 2004, 10:45:54 pm »
do the fender model t reissues produce singing overdrive, or a more modern, saturated sound? i dont want too much saturation... i'm looking for a classic overdrive, which is what i imagine the older Ts could provide if its cranked.

do the vintage ts (71-73) break up nicely, or is the distortion shrill with the volume cranked?

i've been trying amps, i've been looking for a t, i can't find one, a friend in rhode island says he found one, i may just have him buy it, since its cheap, which is a gamble since i haven't heard one yet.
i like the fact that the fender t's are two channel switchable. they are also new, and easier to keep up.

i just want to know if this is amp is a high gain beast, or suitable for indie/post-hardcore classic rock... slint/jawbox. etc.

thanks for your time.

for what it's worth:

I've seen a band called "Battles" with ex-Don Cabellero members and they had like three Model-T's on stage with them.

SUNN gets a lot of respect from underground bands: I'm thinking of Unwound who used Concert amps, Joe Preston of Thrones/Melvins uses Coliseums, Karp used the Coliseum 300. All of these bands were from the NW and had a recognizably classic "post hardcore" sound--lots of SUNN tone and grit.

Not to mention Wino and the current doom revival.

Right now I'm waiting for my new Coliseum Lead to come in the mail which I will pair up with my mid70s Model-T

For a unique sound, try running guitar/bass through a Model-T with the 6X10 cab from the same era. Can't be beat!

UPDATE!!!!

Got the Coliseum Lead in the mail yesterday. Believe it or not, the amp kicks ass and is louder than the Model-T. Is this for real?
