sunn concert / coliseum power tranny

hi guys,
I'm Giovanni and I'm italian. I'd like to buy a Concert lead or a Coliseum lead head, as I saw they are pretty cheap on ebay, and some of my fav bands use them...
in Europe is impossible to find them, so I guess the only choice is to try and find one in the USA.
now the question: the AC is EUR is 220 volts, in the USA 110, so I have 2 solutions: to use an external step-down transformer, or to replace the power transformer with a 200 volts one. any of you experts think the second solution could be feasible, without affecting the sound of the amp? is it easier to do it for solid state amps or there's no difference?

I hope someone will be able to help me, as I'm really willing to try one of this Sunns...

Hello:
 During my tenure at Sunn a lot of the transformers already had 220v leads. If the seller would count the leads for you and tell you the colors you would know which transformer was used. The transformer had two sets of input leads. The leads were connected in series for 220 and parrallel for 120v operations. As export numbers fell off (late 70's) we sourced in 120v only transformers as a cost reduction. My 1974 Sceptre has both 220 & 120 leads. You would have to consult the schematics for the colors although, I think all of our Western Transformer units had identical color codes.

so, to simplify: early 70's models are easily adaptable to european voltages, is that so?
another question please: how to deal with color codes?
