sentura 2 capacitor question
« on: September 07, 2004, 08:27:19 pm »
I'm trying to go through a sentura 2 head for a friend and someone's replaced the 30uF 525v cap coming off the stand-by (at least in the schematic,) with a 30uF 500v one. Should this effect the operation? It sounds all dirty and distorted. Also, I can't seem to find that particular value cap anywhere.  So far it's the only thing that jumps out at me as being the culprit.

I think the tubes are fine, as I've swapped them out with a 200s that's mine and sounds fine, except the 12au7, which I understand only has to do with reverb?? I think...

can someone point me in the right direction?

Antique Electronic Supply (tubesandmore.com) sells a 30-20-20-20 @525V for around $30. Search this site for more info. I've heard that those parts didn't work as advertised. The schematic on the site says B+ is 500V, but I think you'll find it's higher than that. There is no clean solution that I know of other than the AES part. You'll have improvise something inside the chassis.

If that first cap fails open, the B+ on the other side of the choke will only be about 360V. That might be what's causing the bad sound.

I need some clear pictures of the inside of one of the Sunn amps with reverb and trem. All the amps I have are bass amps.
