As a bass cabinet, how would a Sunn 4x12 cabinet do...
« on: August 31, 2004, 10:40:15 am »
against my "Spectrum II" (It's weird the weird prototype one from my previous post...pretty much a 1200S)? I'm considering scrapping my Ampeg 410HLF for this cab, but all of the screws on the back lead me to believe this thing won't hold up so well to the low end of things. It's the tall silver face staggered setup version. Any info on this cab would help, actually.

Ideally, I'd like a 2x15, but I know where I can score a 4x12 for cheap  that need some wiring done to it.

Why would you think that a lot of screws indicates that it wouldn't stand up well?

The tall (42") 412 is the Sceptre cabinet, intended for guitar. Four 12" drivers, sealed cabinet. With bass drivers, I think it would be fine as a bass cabinet, but, being sealed, it isn't going to have the big bottom a lot of cabinets have. With the original drivers, I wouldn't push it very hard. IIRC, the drivers wre only rated for 25 watts or so (rather a lot at the time), so putting more than one or two hundred watts into the cabinet, especially at bass frequencies, risks damage to the drivers.
