model t tubes

Hey, I'm thinking of picking up a model t that's loaded with 4 fender GT6L6 tubes -- will this head have enough low end to serve as a bass head for a bass tuned down to C? I was thinking of getting it 6550s, but I'd be a lot happier buying it if I knew the fender tubes would do the job... any suggestions?

oh one other question -- if I do retube with 6550s does anyone know if I can even do this? If so, how much do you think it would cost? (not the cost of the tubes, the cost of the service if I have to get someone to do it)
