Differences between Colisum Bass vs. Coliseum - 300?
« on: October 28, 2005, 10:00:22 pm »
Hi, what are the differences between the Coliseum Bass and the Coliseum - 300?

I am looking for a vintage sounding workhorse. One option would be to use a solid state head as a slave amp (I have a low powered tube head). However maybe I would use the SUNN as a stand-alone head if it sounded good. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to test them in person.

Looks like the Coliseum-300 is more modern (more controls... 7 EQ knobs, gain. biamp control).

The Coliseum Bass has 4 EQ knobs, volume and 2 inuts.

(I'm not concerned about lack of features, I'm just describing the amps).

Which head would you recommend? Any comments or advice welcome. Thanks for helping a rookie.  :o

Hmm, can't edit my post...

Both are 70's vintage.

The Coliseum Bass amp in question has similar graphics/cosmetics to this Coliseum 880

The Coli 300 has a few  features I don't really see on many amps today.

Poweramp In
Pre Out
Lo/Hi crossover

You  can use it as a power amp (300 watts at 4Ohm) or as a Pre-amp

It is the punchiest amp I own, it's a shame the PCB got burned due to bad wiring in a venue as I really loved playing it.

If you have never used a Coliseum amp they are quite different from other amps.  Your volume comes from turning the EQ up and the Master volume is sort of a gain knob.
