need help with a coliseum lead... PLEASE!
« on: April 27, 2006, 11:47:19 pm »
i finally found a coliseum lead - one of the later red white and black ones.  really nervous about what i plug this into because the back outputs are not labeled.  there are four outputs across the top back - if anyone can tell me what each of these are.. and the corresponding impedence, i would be seriously so grateful.  i have a 4 Ohm cabinet that im worried might wreck somthing, and also dont know where to plug it.  so desperate for help.

The amp is two ohms. I do not believe the outputs are for different ohmage but I could be wrong. Also I would check the wattage of your cab remember those are 320 watt monsters.. I have one, and at 2-2.3ish it sounds like it is about to blast the speakers out of my 140watt cab...

There are 2 output jacks and preamp in + out jacks.  It goes to two ohms but will push a cab that's set at 4 or 8 - but then it wouldn't put out the full wattage.  It would be something like 200 watts at 8 ohms and 120 at 4, or so I'm told - not sure if that's totally accurate.  Hope that helps.

I've never had a coliseum so I am glad someone was able to answer.

Preamp out and power amp in is usually a staple on Sunn solid states as is two speaker outputs.  The speaker outputs on solid state equipment is not usually impedance related and the important thing is not to go below the minimum impedance... 2 ohms on coliseums, 4 ohms on concerts.

A 4 ohm load isn't going to hurt anything on a coliseum.  So feel free to plug and play until you determine which of the jacks are speaker outputs as only they will be strong enough to drive a speaker loads.

Mark them for future reference.

I typed this too fast and got it wrong: that's 200 watts at 4 ohms, and 120 watts at 8 ohms, not the other way around.  Sorry about that.
