I love my Coliseum!!
« on: April 05, 2006, 07:32:10 pm »
This week, the weather has been wonderful. With the time change I have had some time to get my new (to me) Coliseum out on the deck and play with it. I really like the sound of this amp! I won't say that is sounds like a tube amp, but it sure is meaty!  Currently, I only have a 4ohm cab to play through but it gets very loud (and clean!) I can't wait to try it out in a band setting.

I forgot, I A/B'd against my Hartke 3500. It kicks the 3500 to the curb in tone and power.

Glad to hear it! Just keep on top of it and keep 'er in good health! Wait until you get the full 2 ohm load and the full power.

I realize it is an older amp, but how can I gig occasionally with it and keep it healthy? I take care of my stuff, but if anyone has some tips I am all ears.

Well, since it's over twenty years old, I'd say that a little nit picking would probably be good for it.
First of all, keep the fan clean and the insides as well. As the fan blows to keep the guts cool, it blows in dust and stuff. I've been told that this layer of dust creates areas that trap in moisture which, of course, hurts the amp. So, I'd peek inside every now and again just to see how it's doing.
Second, I would suggest putting it on top of a couple layers of carpet padding or something to minimize the amount of shock the amp takes. I've almost rattled amp heads off my 215 cabinet before, so there's a significant amount of shock coming up from there. That will help keep stuff from rattling loose.
So, those are the things I do. I'd gig with it for sure. Maybe not every single gig if you play frequently, but what's the point if you can't play with it?
