Hello all. I've just bought a Spectrum II and probably should have checked this before doing so but how easy is it to convert this amp to run on 240v UK mains. If it's not a possibilty, a simple transformer should work I guess but I'd like a conversion ideally.

It depends on whether or not the main power transformer has a 240V primary tap or not. I don't think they do.

Nope I'm pretty sure they don't either. Would this mean replacing the first tranformer? Once the current has gone on from there the voltage should be whatever the output of the first tranformer dictates right? I'm pretty new to all this so I'm just trying to get my head around it all. Sorry for being slow!

Yes, that's right. If you replace the power transformer, you do it with one that has the proper output voltage. It would also be a good idea to replace it with one that has both 120 and 240 primaries. That way, it wouldn't have to be replaced again when you do your big American tour!

Lol as long as you're there on my big american tour I'm sure I will have all my noob amp questions answered. I don't suppose I could be really cheeky and ask for any points of reference for undertaking such a mamoth task? Eventually I'd like to be able to pick a suitable transformer and stick it in there myslef. I have schematics and lots of wild dreams and I don't like the idea of paying some slack-handed workshop monkey to ruin my amp.

I'd be happy to do it for you.

I'll need two round-trip tickets to London, and lodging for a week, plus the cost of the transformer and a few odds and ends, like solder and an iron, which I'll leave with you.

you heard what I said about slack handed workshop monkeys. (OOOOH handbags). I'm sure that would be lovely. I would be more than happy to rent out the space under the stairs to you. It's a toilet at the moment but I reckon you could fit a coupla pillows in there. two tickets? That's just greedy though
