Sunn 1 x 15
« on: April 20, 2007, 12:32:44 am »
I just bought Sunn 1 x 15 cab.  It doesn't have a back plate on it, but has a very clean logo plate that looks like it's from the 60's.  It looks as tall as a 2 x 15 cab, but only has a single 15.  Does anyone have any idea which amp this would've been paired with back in the day or what the original speaker would've been?  (Picture forthcoming).  I'm using it with my 2000s for now and it sounds nice even though the original speaker was replaced with an EV.

Take a look at the catalogs on this site. There were a couple of cabinets with a single 15..I believe they were 38" high instead of the 42 that the 2X15's are.

Any idea what speaker is in it? Of course, it may have been swapped...but it may be original.

Sounds like a Sentra.

Check out the 1968 catalog and let us know if that's it.

Nice find.

I doubt it's a Sentra. A Sentra is much larger, around 180" X 71" X 60".

That really sounds like the 1x15 cabinet I bought. It probably was paired to a Sorano piggy back style, like mine was. In fact my cabinet say's Sorano on the speaker jack in the back. What color grill clothe is it?

I have a '67 Spectrum I cabinet that matches the dimensions given.  Small port cut out of the bottom of the speaker baffle.  Makes a great guitar cabinet.

It looks a lot like the Sentura I cab.  Is it a bass cab?  Too bad somebody stole the jbl...

Scanning through the catalogs on this site...it appears Sunn used this cabinet for a few years in the late 60's. In all pictures, it is called a guitar cabinet.

It would sound great with that 130F in it.
