Sunn 1x15 cab, orig '68
« on: May 02, 2007, 11:42:00 am »
I have a 1968 Sunn 1x15 cab to sell. It was part of a half stack that was the 2nd amp developed by Sunn. Here's a pic of the stack:

The enclosure is a half sized version of the much more common 2x15 and features the same folded port design, as well as a JBL D140F speaker...as you can see in these pics:

How do I know that it's a 1968? There's a signature with the date on the inside:

I also have the head, which dates back to 1965, is very unique and has great tone, but needs a bit of work. Most players I know have never seen one of these, with the controls on the top and an EL-34 tube set.

Everything but the handle on the head, the standby switch and the pilot light are original on both the head and the cab.

At the moment I am only thinking about selling the cab, but would sell the whole rig to a serious collector.

I've had this stuff since the early 70s and want to find a good home for them...although I am considering keeping the head...
if you email me put "sunn" in the subject line...I ignore most everything else ;-)

What are you asking for the cabinet?  I would be interested in the amp if your considering selling it also.  You can e-mail mail me at jhmock@comcast.net if you want.

Great pictures. Easy to see the front baffle with the oblong port instead of the 2 15 model with a rectangular port. Also interesting to see no sound absorbing material on the inside except for along the port wall. Everything I have ever read says to not put material on this face.

Someone should save a copy of these pictures to this sites library. This cabinet is fairly rare. in this case, in this condition, very rare.

this may be a stupid question but it intrigues me.  what kind of cabinet are you building in the other pics and what do all the holes and slates in the extended baffle do for sound?  is there a plan you are following and if so can I see it to study it?
thanks
