buying advice: looking at picking up a concert lead, things to watch out for?

Are there any common problems with these guys to look for? Seller is asking $300, which seems to be just a little high (is it?).  I love the sound of these, and we haven't owned any Sunn equipment since the 70s, so I'm just looking for a little guidance and advice, as I have no problem admitting that I don't know too much about these, haha. Thanks!

$300 isn't too bad, a lot of the solid state heads go for about that on eBay all the time.


things to look for, general noise, crackling when using the boost/distortion/reverb on it, or crackling when it is vibrated or hit


all of those would indicate a loose connection inside which would need to be fixed.

other than that just keep an eye out for anything else you would on any other amp.

My preference would be for the earlier 2 channel models over the later single channel ones - They are just easier to play and control with an A-B switch in front, volume wise, over switching the boost and distort in and out.

$300? Hmm... it would have to be in excellent cosmetic condition, with all original knobs and no scrapes on the control panel and no rips in the tolex. Rust on the corner pieces usually can't be avoided.

Normally, although not always, a good cosmetic appearance means the amp has been well taken care of. Then again, I have seen beat up Concerts that have sounded superb.

But for $300, it had better look as good as it sounds.
