sunn concert bass has fuzz, help!
« on: June 29, 2008, 11:16:37 pm »
my concert bass needed some new power filter caps and so I got around to replacing them. I put it all back together and now I get fuzz with every note played. It goes away when nothing is played, and it's not a bad fuzz, it almost sounds like the "distortion" is activated but I can activate it and it just gets more fuzzed out/overdriven.

Any ideas on what could have went wrong when I put everything back together? Are there any internal pictures on the web I could check out to compare to mine? Any ideas on what could cause this?

Thanks, Tim

Tim, when I work on an amp and find that some new 'thing' has popped up, I assume that the new noise is related to the work I did. ...a new component is bad, my solder work was sub-par, reversed the leads  on a cap. There are a lot of possibilities since I am human and do err.  In short, I go back over my work. IF I don't find the problem that way, I start checking voltages. I check to see if tubes are seated in clean sockets. I check tubes.
At some point when the simple approaches don't locate the problem, a signal generator and a scope will track down the problem.
Take care and good luck...
