Two Original 15" Speakers from early 70's Concert Bass
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:37:44 pm »
Hi all,

Both the cab and speakers are MINT. I just acquired the cab, and it's so perfect that it appears to be new old stock. Unfortunately for me, the speakers result in a 4 ohm load, which just won't fit into my rig without blowing something up, so I'll be replacing them with something more suitable, and I'd like the vintage speakers to go to someone who will appreciate them.

I'm certainly not looking to make a killing on these, so I'll be more than happy to consider any reasonable offer and work something out with you.

Cheers,
James

The Concert Bass came out in about 1972 and didn't really have it's own speaker. Can you post a picture or describe the speakers in more detail?

Hi,

I was told it was late 60's, but early 70's seems entirely plausible. Thank you for the heads up. I'm admittedly new to the older Sunn equipment, having gotten my start with the Fender "reissues."

The back plate of the cab says:

2-15" Sunn Transducers
Cabinet Impedance 4 ohms
Sunn Concert Bass

At the risk of sounding totally ignorant, I'm having trouble posting pics. I have quite a few though that I'd be happy to e-mail to you or anyone interested.

I emailed the site administrator about the picture option. It disappears from time to time. Interesting plate on the back of your cab. Is there a place for a serial number or warrantee sticker? Are the speakers off center and or mounted on a white painted board? Is the ((o)) part of the logo red on the front or back of the cab? Sunn went through a lot of changes over the years and I'm trying to collect as much info as I can.

The O))) logo is silver against black. I'm at work at the moment, so I can't advise the serial number as the photos I have with me don't show it clearly, but the serial # runs vertically along the right edge of the plate.

As for the cab itself, it's black with silver grill cloth and the speakers are stacked vertically one on top of the other.

If you want to PM me you email address, I'd be happy to send you photos.

If the speakers are offset slightly and port runs vertically along the right side, then it is a Concert-era 215 (first appearing in the 1972 catalog).  Sunn still made the earlier versions in 1971 (speakers centered, one port on each side).
Sunn since June 1971!
1971 Sorado, 2000S, Coliseum Bass, Coliseum Lead
1970 200S; 1974 Coliseum 880

You're brilliant, mate. Thanks for the info.

The speakers are centered with ports on each side, which would make it a '71 then.
