A Ray of hope for the old Grill Cloth
« on: December 13, 2008, 10:59:04 am »
If you have ever looked closely at Traynor grill cloth used from 64 to the mid 70's its almost identical to the grill cloth Sunn used prior to mid 69. The difference is (I forget which is which) one used white-white-silver-silver and the other white-silver-white-silver. There may have been a difference on which way the colored threads were oriented as the weaving machine was run. Standel also used a similar cloth on some of their amps. Well, Traynor is now producing a re-issue of the YGM-3, a small 20W combo with reverb. Quoting from the produce page,

http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?type=3&cat=63&id=409

"The original supplier even painstakingly recreated the unique grille cloth used on the original YGM-3 for the re-issue." Maybe melotone aka Wendell Fabrics will get off their a** and make us some correct grill cloth! If you have the energy to deal with these people, please do. The minimum order might be pretty big, contact me and I'll make it happen.

Hi there,I've been pillaging grill cloth off old Traynor gear for years, the speaker columns grill cloth can be used for the front boards on heads and there's a lot of 4 x 12"s and 2 x 15"s out there, fairly large pieces to work with,Mel.

Yea, because Traynor orients the white and silver threads the other way, a column speaker is perfect for a Sunn head! Still, I want pieces big enough to do 200S cabs. I looked in the Traynor Parts pdf but the new/old grill cloth isn't listed yet. You should be able to order some from Traynor but it would help to have the right part number.

This would be very cool if someone was able to get the old grillecloth available again!
