If I connect the bright and normal channels together (a la any fender) is there any difference in sound? I tried it and can't say I really noticed, just wondering if maybe I am hard of hearing after playing around with this thing.

The Solarus only has one channel. That channel has four inputs. Jumpering or bridging the inputs really doesn't do much except make a slight change in brightness. The Model T has two channels and a separate jack that bridges them when used. There is a volume control for each channel.
