best way to run 2 8ohm cabs w/ 2000s
« on: September 13, 2009, 10:30:09 pm »
Hi there.  Here is some background...  I have a 2000s (used for guitar) that I have been running through a 16ohm sunn 412 (model t reissue cab - 300w).  I also have 2 412sr's.  My tech wired up the 8ohm output jack of the 2000s to be switchable between 4 & 8ohm.

I thought I remembered reading that the 16ohm jack self switches to 8ohms - if an 8ohm cab is present out of the 8ohm jack.  Is this right?  SO theoretically I could run 1 cab out of each output, correct?

Am I missing something here?  Alternatively, I suppose I could run the cabs daisy chained out of the 4ohm tap?

thanks!

The jacks were designed to be self switching but since your tech has made a switch for the 4 and 8 ohm jack I"d just check with him.  You have to be careful asking for advice on vintage amps when you're is not vintage (although yours is only very slightly modified).

Search is your friend. This has been discussed numerous times over the years;

search for "output impedance".

I checked with my tech and apparently this 200s does NOT have self switching jacks.  I guess someone had done some work to it before I got it.  I just ran out from the 4ohm jack and daisy chained the 8ohm cabs together.  Worked a treat.

thanks!
