rehousing a beta lead
« on: June 30, 2009, 07:25:45 am »
hello! I have a the beta lead combo with the two semi parallel speakers. I dont find much use for the speakers and i want to get a seperate speaker cabinet for the amp. considering the amps size, is it possible to change the casing of the beta lead so that it turns into a simple amp i can put on top of another separate cabinet?

Of ocurse.  Just pull the amp out and put it in another box...  Then all you've got to do it add jacks to connect your new speakers instead of a hard wire to the speakers in the combo.  Doesn't get any easier than this!

The Beta Lead 4X10 combo that I have is a self contained head (with speaker jacks, etc.) mounted in a slot in the speaker box. It's not hard wired in any way, you have to plug in the speaker even when using the speakers in the combo. It looks a little funny because the factory didn't paint the center of the chassis box, but you can just remove the mounting bolts, slide it out, put it on a different cabinet and use it like any other head.
You can see in the picture the marks in the tolex where the previous owner slid the head in and out, and the speaker jacks both in the amp and the cabinet.
