Polarity Switch question
« on: December 29, 2011, 01:40:26 am »
How do you know if the polarity switch is in the right position (other than getting shocked)? What is the exact protocol for that? also I have read that getting your cord switched to a three prong will fix that issue, so my question is, will a 3 prong adapter be a good temp fix?
thanks!

If you have a two prong ungrounded power cord, adding the adapter will do nothing for you. It still won't be grounded. Those adapters are used when you already have a three prong and want to plug into an older building that has two prong outlets. This usually leaves you ungrounded but in some cases you can use the cover plate screw to obtain a ground. I'd test it to be sure. Generally speakin' the polarity switch postion that hums the least would be the best. It will let you know if it wants to be reversed  :-o Of course the next time you plug it in you may have turned the plug over and put it in the other direction, reversing the situation. Easier to get it changed out sooner than later, meanwhile lay your life (or at least you lips if you sing) on the card table and take your chances.

this is a very easy fix first and for most be very careful when messing around inside any amp they contain lethal voltage that can kill you.

buy a replacement cord( 3 wire type) take old cord out, place new cord in, on the inside of the amp use a screw thats closest to the cord as possible and use that as your ground wire, then hook the other 2 wires up accordingly and your done, be sure to take the polarity switch completely out of the power loop to insure safe grounding

Yeah, well don't do this... OK?
Just take it to a competent tech.
