Sunn Concert PA

Here's some stuff I found in my catalog collection. The first Concert PA appeared in the 69 catalog. Output was said to be 90W RMS 200W peak. In the "feel the sound of the 70's Sunn sound systems" catalog (copyright 1971) the Concert Control Amplifier is now rated at 120W RMS 280W peak. In the 69 catalog the knobs look different. In the 71 catalog the knobs look like the 0-10 knobs seen in this thread. In 71 there were no other PA systems besides the Concert Control Amp and the Coliseum Audio Controller.

In 1972 the Concert Control Amp is replaced by the Concert Controller 1 and Concert Controller 2. The "1" had 6 channels, 150W with a 5 band graphic EQ and the "2" was 8 channels with optional 150W power amp and 9 band graphic EQ.

Can I blame you guys for the 1969 Studio PA head I bought today? (It's in good shape and the price was decent relative to what I've seen lately.)

You can blame me.  I got mine in a kind of package deal.  6x10" and PA for $250.

At the time I bought it I just wanted another cab to go with my head.  I had to throw in some money to get it back in working order since it wasn't(working), but I'm still satisfied with my purchase.

Hi, Guys,

I just finished reconditioning the Sunn Concert Controller 1 I got from eBay a few months ago. The price was ridiculous: $46 and $40 shipping --- that's a whopping $86 delivered and the unit is as close to perfect as can be. A thorough teardown and cleaning, and replacement of all the fasteners with polished stainless and it's ready to go.

JohnnyGuitar: I'm also reconditioning a pair of those small Sunn horn cabinets like yours, and wondered what the 4x10 cabinets were underneath your horns. Are they the triangular-section columns? I used something similar to those as laydown monitors back in the mid-70's, but I think they had two 12's.

The 412SR Speaker Columns were matched with the Concert PA.  Good luck on your horns!

Are the enclosures rectangular in a top or bottom view, or are they triangular and snap together face-to-face to form a square when viewed from the top?

The horns are quite a downsize from the Sunn JBL Golden Lens Reflectors I had in the late '60's but they should do fine in the basement with the Concert Controller 1. I also have a pair of those Sunn (by Fender) 1505 cabinets with a 15-inch speaker and a plastic horn. Cheesy, but don't sound half bad, and will probably do just fine in the basement or a small club.

I like the idea of the twin 410 enclosures, though. Probably a lot better.

The 412SR has 4-12" speakers, the cab is rectangular and they get very Loud & sound great.  What horns do you have?  The horns on top of the 412SR speakers are called " Concert Horn Accessory".  The larger horns in my pics are "Concert Small Radial Horns".  The other pair of cabs are "Studio Pa" and have 1-15"JBL and a JBL Horn.  There is a 410SR Column that is "V" shaped with 4- 10" speakers.

Thanks, ace. Got mixed up for a moment there. I knew your cabinets were 12's, but confused them with the 410 "V" cabs that were on eBay.

I have the accessory horns, although each one has only two input jacks on the rear, not three as the literature states. Am I missing something? The cabinets are as well made as any Sunn gear, and the horns are metal and not the plastic used in the 1505 cabinets I have.

I'm familiar with the Sunn radial horns, too. My first Sunn PA was the original Coliseum with the 215 bottoms and JBL Reflectors. My later Coliseum had a 16-channel Sunn board, four Sunn 15 bins and two Sunn large radial horns. Several Col and Con slaves drove everything, and the monitors were a combination four of those V-style laydowns -- maybe two 12's in one type and a 12 and small horn in the other. Too long ago to remember.

I'd love to find a pair of those 412SR columns at a reasonable fix-em-up price. They'd be very nice, I'm sure.

Here is my Concert PA I just received today. This is the only one like this i have ever seen or heard of. If anybody knows any info on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Also I am planning on using this with a 1969 Marshall 4x12 cab, so i need to know to what ohms i should wire the speakers inside the cab, i'm guessing 4 ohms.
