Anyone in the Northeast part of the US?
« on: November 05, 2010, 09:33:39 pm »
I saw this on craigslist;

http://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/msg/2042405755.html

Seems too good to be true, I can't get to it myself to check it out so I thought I'd post it here.

Hello I am the new PROUD owner  I nabbed it for the unreal price of $100
original tubes 4 of them 6550's Amperex tubes.  heavy little bugger though!
I almost blasted out the windows when I took it off standby!!!!!
hooked up to a late model 4x10  I plan to play bass through it.

I play with a Who /Stones tribute band.

not a lot of info on the web about these.
It is the rare black tolex and cloth.

it is a sticker and I'm not going to rip of the sticker to see what is underneath.

Any Ideas as to what cab I should mate it with?
I'm thinking 2x15

I'm glad I got it though.

and solid offers?  I am all ears

IMO you "stole" it regardless of the condition.
I'm always willing to learn new things, but I wasn't aware that Amperex ever made 6550's. Maybe the name like so many of the old classic tube makers has been prostituted and stamped on Chinese and/or Russian tubes?

I think all of the Sunns from that era had black tolex, but the black grill is extremely rare; so rare in fact that if yours left the factory with black grill cloth it's probably the only one ever to do so.  :-D

Use the search function and you'll get some info about your new amp. It's essentially a SS rectified 1000S/1200S, so info you get about those models should be helpful to you.
Also you will find threads about where to get the proper grill cloth, as well as speaker combinations other members use with their similar amps.

Great score! I wish I could have snapped it up, those deals don't happen very often anymore. Of course if it were a 2000S, I'd have probably booked a flight instead of posting the listing here!

As you probably would imagine, you aren't the first one to be looking for Sunn grill cloth.
Use the search function, the grill cloth thing has been covered ad nauseam.

and I also just purchased one what is rumored to be. of John Entwistle's SUNN 412L cabinet that was only on Ebay for about 45 minutes. Lucky for me it was a local seller. I did my research before I pulled the plug.so no huge shipping price! this rig sounds very, very nice.  This was a cab that was used as a top (he used (4) 2x15's as bottoms) when he had the John Entwhistle Band. It has been stored for a long time.   pictures soon to follow!   It also has a mono/stereo ohms switch on the back )not original) that is a Jim Marshall Design.
