Ampeg V2 for a Sunn Sonaro - good deal?
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:37:58 am »
My friend has a guy offering him a minty Sonaro for his minty V2.  I personally prefer the V2, as I'm a fan of low end, plus the OD on the V2 sounds amazing.  What do you guys think?  Also, which one do you think is worth more $...I'd say the sunn as all sunn amps have been climbing fast in value.

I would rather have the V2 if the condition was equal also. IMO the Ampeg is more amp, and the value of Ampegs are a lot more stable than Sunns are.
I wish Sunn were climbing in value, the last 10 days the SS stuff seems to be holding but the tube gear is dropping. However there hasn't been much Sunn gear sold, which usually seems to precede another spike in value.
So, if they follow the normal Sunn pattern they'll be back up in a couple of months. It may be the time to stock up on Model T's, a month ago everyone was complaining that you couldn't touch one under 2 grand + and it seems now they are bringing about half of that.

I just wish it would stabilize and slowly climb, occasionally backsliding but inching forward rather than the dramatic up and down thing.

If you think Sunn gear prices have seen a decline - check out old acoustic control corp prices

But you can always sell a footswitch for some stupidly high price

I saw that exact trend and that's why I jumped on 2 model ts. I got both for 2 grand total and I'm LOVING them.  BTW, any recommendations for replacement knobs? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

I don't know if they are the same, but forum member "george" actually had some Sundholm era 0-10 knobs remanufactured by the OEM supplier.
Last I checked he still had some available.

I bought some of the knobs from George and they are fantastic!!!  I used them on my Sentura II restoration.  They are exact to the originals.

I've bought some for my amps too, and I agree they are the bomb. Exactamundo the same as my original knobs, but new.
What I don't know is if the Model T uses the same knobs.

Yes, I contacted George. He still has some luckily. He said he isn't sure if they fit a model T exactly. Anyone know?

The Rogan 0-10 knobs fit the model T first and second generation. The impedance switch on the back takes a different knob.
