200S cab vs 2000S cab
« on: November 24, 2010, 11:19:30 pm »
Has anyone had an opportunity to compare a 200S cab and a 2000S cab on a 200S head?  Does the larger cabinet make much difference?

I've never done it side by side, but I've used a 200S amp through a 2000S cab and vice versa. I think the 2000S cab sounds "bigger", more bass response and overall deeper, maybe even a little louder.
And, it looks so much better than the 200S cab under a 2000S head. Balanced, not that goofy "T" shape that a too small cab with a too big head gives you (one of my pet peeves).

It's also exponentially more of a bitch to load in and out, the extra weight and 6" all around can turn a simple gig into a project. 20-30 years ago I wouldn't care, but now I wouldn't schlep a 200S head with a 2000S cab unless it was my only option, I'd just crank up the bass control to get that "thump".

I don't think I've ever even seen a 2000S cabinet in person. However, the physics of speaker design support what Ed says. A larger cabinet will have more bass. That could be expressed as deeper response, or louder in the same frequency band. I don't know which it is in this case, but I rather suspect deeper response.

Stack 2 200S cabs on their sides and put the 2000S on top....goofy look solved....andwhat a sound.

having both 200s and 2000s amps..i can compare and have...the 2000s cab does have more bass response and it's a loud cab...BUT  !   it's a bear to load and unload..you do need a real good friend...real good...i have played my 200s head thru the 2000s bottom and it sounds great...i have played my 2000s head thru the 200s cab...guess what ? that sounds great also...it all depends on who's ears are hearing it..when you get old..you want a cab the size of a lunch box..smiles..

Yeah, small cabinets are great for moving, but there's still no replacement for displacement!

I've got a 2000S cabinet now if you want to see/hear/play it sometime Isaac. I'm in school currently so won't have any time unless its during a break. If you're interested though, send me a PM and we can work out something.
