70's Sunn Sonaro Head
« on: January 28, 2011, 09:10:36 pm »
Just purchased this head, wondering if there is a way to figure out what year it's from. Also, anybody use one of these as a guitar amp and if so what kind of distortion pedal do you use? I was thinking of getting an 80's ibanex TS9 or 808.

They usually have an inspection sticker, or just a hand written date somewhere on the chassis. Other than that, you probably would need to post some front and back pictures for someone here to guestimate it's age.

No way to tell anything from the serial number. The grill cloth and badge date it after mid 1969. There was a 40W EL34 version made up until about 1970 and after that was the 80W version with 6550 tubes and no GZ34. What tubes does it have?

EL34's. On the rear it says 115 watts but I think that's related to the power supply. Thanks for the info so far.
