2000S Cabinet Height - PLEASE HELP

Hi, Guys,

Help.

I have a set of first-class drawings and four images of the assembled 2000S cabinet, all direct from Conrad.

The dimensional drawings show the cabinets as 46 inches high, not 48 inches.

I called Conrad to verify, and he said that the drawing is correct; they are 46 inches tall. He thought the discrepancy might be in the 2-inch casters.

He called back later to say that he had asked a friend with an original cabinet to measure, just to be sure. His friend's call was 46 inches.

I'm ready to start cutting wood for two cabinets, but still looking for one more person to verify the height before the saw comes out.

PLEASE, if anyone has an accessible, original (not home-brew or copy) 2000S cabinet, please measure top-to-bottom of the cabinet only (no casters), and let me know if you come up with 46 or 48 inches.

Conrad had a chuckle. He thought they might have added the caster height so they could list the cabs as 48 inches in the catalogs and make them seem bigger. Sounds plausible to me; you should have seen all the crazy fudging that go kart companies did back in the 1960s.

Anyway, I don't like to question an originator, but really I'd hate to invest time and bucks to come up with a major flaw in my work.

Conrad is right...the extra 2 inches includes the casters.  Back in the day the caster height was included in the specs for the overall cabinet height in the catalogs.  Ex:  The 200S cab is actually 40" tall but in the catalog it's listed as 42".  My Sentura cabs are 36" tall, but the catalog has them listed as 38".  The extra is the 2" casters.

Just another voice: Yes, the cabinet itself is 46"+2" casters.

However, beware that there is a discrepancy somewhere in the drawing Conrad sent me (probably the exact same as yours), which I believe doesn't take into account that you use 3/4 ply, and so I ended up with my cab being about something like 30.5 or 31" wide, instead of the standard 30". Not a big deal, just something to look for so you don't become really confused like I did.

Yeah. Thanks. Someone else warned me about that, but I think it's a mistake.

The width is 30 inches and the plans show a 29-inch top and bottom.

This would come out to 31.5 -- IF YOU MISSED THE 1/4-INCH DADO ON EACH SIDE PANEL.

The 30-inch top and bottom nestle inside the 1/4-inch dado inset, so the end result is a 30-inch width.

Drawings seem correct to me.

What I mostly got from the drawings were the interior part dimensions and angles. The drawings are first rate, as are the images.

Cutting wood tomorrow.

BTW, the 410S cabs I built are pretty good looking. They're all painted inside, and ready for Tolex.

Mine measures out at exactly 30.5" wide, even with the dado. The reason is that I, as per instructions, used 3/4 ply on the exterior, where as if you used 1/2 inch ply, you'd end up with 30" wide. In the drawings, it states 30", but that's if you use 1/2 on the out side, instead of the 3/4ths that it says to use. Not really an issue, just something to not get confused over.

I want to see those 410S cabs!

Got your message, I don't have a 2000S cab.  I do have a 1000S cab that's the same as a 2000S except the 15" speakers are slightly offset to the left to make room for the JBL Horn that comes in the cab. Its the big brother of the 100S cab.  I tried to measure it when I got off work, but it was buried in the back of my storage unit.  I'm glad you got the dimensions, look forward to seeing your cab.

I just measured my 2000S cabinet and it is 46" tall without casters, and 30" wide.
