Sceptre
« on: January 06, 2011, 05:49:30 pm »
I play bass and am looking for my first tube amp.  I've read that the sonaro and sorado have great lows but have not found anything on the sceptre.  I've also read that the schematics on those are virtually the same on the sceptre.  Will the sceptre be a good match for the bass or are the other models better?  Also is $475 a fair price to pay for a '71 sceptre?

Cant remember if the Sceptre has a Bass boost?

Just remember they are only rated at 60 watts so they would be okay for small venues however depends on the music you play and how loud your drummer is...lol.
They were voiced for guitar I believe so it may not be your best choice.

$475 I feel is reasonable, not over/under priced, you may want to save your nickels and find a 2000S or Model T that has a little muscle behind it. Good Luck!

The Sceptre is a guitar amp, and does not have a bass boost.

OTOH, I've used a Sceptre and a Sentura II (same circuit) for bass on many occasions, and I've always liked the result.

IMHO $475 is too much unless the amp has fresh tubes and has been re-capped or has "J H EXP" stenciled on it.
