Setting up for 4 ohms ?

I believe the way my 200S is set up is for 8 ohms on the left speaker jack.
I want to change that to 4 ohms.

Is it as simple as just swapping wires?

I was thinking of taking both jacks loose from the chassis and wrapping them with tape after soldering a wire on to the black wire (ground) and brown wire (4 ohms) and putting in a new jack on the back. Seems like that might be safer.


After this much work I don't want to burn anything up.

I don't have a Sunn in front of me, but I think the left jack is the primary so if it's set up for 8 and 4 ohms, the right jack should already be set up for running a single 4 ohm load. Also, there are threads describing the jack wiring in detail, but I sure couldn't find them with a quick search. Maybe you can have better luck searching than I did, I know there is specific jack wiring and switching info somewhere...

I think it would be a shame to cut another "un stock" hole in that pretty amp.

I was just going to replace the existing jacks with a 4 ohm on the left and a dummy jack on the right and tape up the originals and leave them inside the chassis in case I want to put it all back

Why not just use the 4 ohm jack as is and not use the 8 ohm jack?

Wasn't sure exactly how that worked and if you needed other stuff plugged in and what not.


I have now added two new jacks to the back where the old ones were.
I added a brown jumper to the existing jack's brown wire and a black wire to the existing jack's black wire. I taped up the old jacks and pushed them up in the chassis and mounted the new jacks.
The left jack is now 4 ohms and the right jack is nothing, but looks nice.

If I ever want to return it to stock, I can just snip the jumpers and remount the original jacks

Greg,  You can use the 4 ohm jack for a 4 ohm load cab without having to have anything plugged into the 8 ohm.  I do that with my Sentura II.  The clone cabs I built are 4 ohms each...so.....when using one cab I plug into the "right" 4 ohm output jack, and when I use both cabs, I use my series box...which puts the two 4 ohm cabs in series (8 ohms)... and use the "left" 8 ohm output.  By doing that you don't have to do a thing to the amp and keep it original

It's a challenge sometimes. If you want to post a picture a second time in a different thread, you get an error message unless you re-name the file. I try to remember what words I might have used. Mechanism or orange black red didn't find it, but I remembered your comment about the bright pictures and used flash and rust
