My 200S Speaker Cabinet Construction Project

hey greg!  my dad and I are building one right now and i'm wondering how much tolex i'm going to need.  how much did you get?

I got 3 yds,  54" wide

I only wanted one seam (on the bottom)
There was enough to take the back section out if you ran the long dimension (of the back) parallel to the (sides) wrap around piece. Plus a chunk left over for "the future"

You want plenty of width for the sides. As careful as I was to get the tolex parallel with the sides it still wandered off by the time I went all the way around.
It's way easier to cut off the excess than to glue more on because you shorted yourself 

I'd cut it even wider if I were to do it again.

also, how did you handle the seam?

Since it was on the bottom I just did a lap seam, not a but seam. But since I was using casters I put the seam under caster mounting plates and had the plates run front to back. I used a new razor blade and a cutting board and a straight edge to make I nice straight, clean cut on the visible end.

It matches perfectly with the 66 Fender Super Reverb.

I also have enough left over so that if I want to re-cover the 200s head, I have some.
