FS/Trade/Wanted: Goodbye 2000s, hello Coliseum!

It's been a long search for the perfect combination of tone and power, and finally I've found it.  Unfortunately, it's my buddy's amp and not mine!



I've decided to sell my 2000s and get a Coliseum.  He's got the 880, which sounds fantastic, but I'd entertain a Lead or Bass too from the same silver era.  So if anyone wants a 2000s, has a Coliseum, or is interested in a trade (plus cash on your end, depending) then please get in touch.  I'm in Chicago, willing to drive to a certain degree or ship if needed.

About my 2000s.  It's a fantastic sounding head, but just can't keep up with what I'm doing volume-wise.  Running it full out sounds glorious but it just doesn't have the volume to compete with, well, a Coliseum 880 for starters.  I bought it at Thanksgiving last year, it had been recently serviced and working well.  I had my tech give it a once over anyway, and he cleaned up some of the wiring inside (someone had put unneeded wire lengths in there at some point).  With a clean bill of health, I ordered a new power switch from Akindle and went to a friend's to solder it in.  Said friend shorted out one of the tubes due to a little blunder on the basement stairs, which could've been much worse.  Back to the tech, who put in a replacement 6550, rebiased, rewired the orig switch to light up properly, checked it out again for any other issues (none found) and it's back in business.  So it's got 3 new EH 6550s and one off-brand 6550 from the EH factory that was the best match.  When I got it it came with red knobs.  I got a set of 4 amp-correct used black knobs (also from Akindle) but 2 of them have issues - one has a set screw that won't move, and one is too stripped out to keep a set screw in it.  Buyer gets all 4 knobs, and new or used ones can be bought from Akindle if you want to.  Also, it has no back panel.  Ohm switch added to run at 16, 8 or 4.  Cosmetically it's in good shape, maybe a little dusty but not abused.  Sonically it's glorious and with it's recent service history I'd expect it to need nothing for quite a while.  I am about $1000 deep on this amp but I know they've been going for less on ebay.  I'm looking for a mutually beneficial trade but willing to consider reasonable offers.  Here's some photos from the guy I bought it from - note that I'm keeping the red knobs and as I said above one of the 6550's has been changed out due to a short.

The last I saw it was early last year and it was going to Detroit I think, and it already had the power switch changed out, but it's incorrect and too big. The chassis had to be modded to get it in. Also, the tap switch added to the rear panel; that was there already also.

Yep, looks like the same one.  I forgot about the pilot light that was added, which is currently disconnected now that the power switch is working properly.  Originally I was going to put in a new switch because I thought the internal light in the original switch didn't work... but as it turned out it was just wired wrong.  I didn't notice if/that the existing switch required the hole to be enlarged, but looking at this history I guess it doesn't surprise me.  I bought it from a guy on  TB who was in Wausau WI.  I'm not sure why it's been moving around so much - it really is a great sounding amp and deserves a forever home.  Looks like the previous owner on this forum was asking $1500... hell, if anybody here wants it at that price I'll throw in a 118V!

Yeah, I remember the TB thread as well, I'm always on the lookout for a 2000S! There wasn't anything wrong with it when I saw it, just the chassis mods. It had had a lot of "techs" under the hood as the saying goes, a lot of fresh wiring, but I'm dogging it at all, it was pretty much all there; a nice solid amp.
If I remember correctly it had some "guitar" mods to the tone stack also.
Where is the amp now?

It's in Chicago, in my practice space, sitting atop two 118V cabs as pictured in the top photo.  When I got it, the bass boost switch didn't really boost anything although it did affect the tone in some useless way... my tech went in, cleaned out a rat's nest of wiring, and made things how they should be.  The bass boost is back and killer thick, and it definitely is more of a bass amp than it was when I got it.  I'm not much of a tech guy so I'm not sure what all was done, but I got the same impression about it's internal history.  If you're interested I could get more details from him.  You (or anyone else) is also welcome to stop by and put it through it's paces if you're local.

Man does this amp get around. I remember when JoshuaTSP (?) was selling it over on Talkbass. I looked at it for a while, but for various reasons, (grill wouldn't match my stuff, mods, found one locally), I didn't pull the trigger. Still, it's a pretty cool amp, and I do very much like the idea of the Ohm switch on the back of it. I really hope it finds a loving home soon, poor thing.

JoshuaTSP is the one I bought it from.  I've got a couple friends who have expressed serious interest (either of which I'd consider to be a long-term, loving home scenario), but so far no money has changed hands.  Since the question has come up elsewhere; I'll let it go with the two cabs for $1500.

118V, both reconed, one is missing casters.  Otherwise good shape.  If anyone here's seriously interested in the full stack, I'd also offer delivery for the cost of gas, depending on where you are.  I'm in Chicago.  Also included would be my little DIY series box, so that it can all be run together at 8 ohms.
